Special News We're Seeking a $250K Grant & Need Your Support!

How a Mission Main Street Grant Could Make a Big Difference...

At Teachers Test Prep, we believe that great teaching makes a difference.  That's why we spend hundreds of hours writing in-depth, content-focused curriculum that helps our students pass their teacher certification exams by truly improving their understanding and mastery of the subject matter they will teach.  That's why we seek out the very best instructors for our group classes and one-on-one tutoring programs and pay them the high wages they deserve.  And that's why we want to continue to expand, so we can make an impact on an even larger scale.

I'm excited to share with you that Teachers Test Prep is applying for a Mission Main Street Grant, which is a program from Chase bank that awards twelve $250K grants to small businesses each year to help them grow.

There are dozens of additional teacher certification exams for which we do not yet offer prep, and we hear frequently from those who need these services. This grant would accelerate our ability to meet that need and would catalyze a dramatic "ripple effect" of growth for us. We would be able to hire several full-time curriculum designers. Together, they could create a projected 12-16 new programs per year and this, in turn, would allow us to hire over 20 new instructors to teach the material.

In short, this grant will enable us to create more jobs for great teachers... and it will allow us to serve many more aspiring teachers, helping them deepen their content knowledge so they can become great teachers, too.  And that makes a difference for students.

If you support our mission, we need your vote!

In the first round of the grant competition, we have to get 250 votes in order to be eligible, so our success depends on you!  To vote for us, simply visit our Mission Main Street Grants page and log in via Facebook Connect-- it's quick, easy, and you'll be making a big difference for us and the community of educators we serve!

With Sincere Thanks,

For those who would like to learn more about our company and our mission, below is our official grant application...

MISSION MAIN STREET GRANT - APPLICATION QUESTIONNAIRE:

Tell us about your business. What inspired you to start your business? How is your business successful? What makes it unique?

Credentialing programs prepare educators to teach, but cannot cover the wide range of content knowledge required in each unique discipline. Teachers Test Prep bridges this gap, helping aspiring educators prepare for their certification exams by truly improving their understanding and mastery of the subject matter they will teach. I was inspired to start this business in 2005 after helping my mom prepare for her exams when, at age 55, she decided to pursue her dream of being a teacher.

How is your business involved with the community you serve?

Over the past 8 years, we have grown from a one-man tutoring business into a company that serves over 150,000 individual account holders in over 40 states and partners with top universities and teachers' organizations. Because most of our courses are taught by working K-12 teachers, we also provide over 20 high-paying "second jobs" to educators working in a profession that is widely underpaid. Our programs have a significant impact on aspiring teachers, and on the students they will teach.

What would a $250,000 grant mean to your business and how will you utilize the funds to ensure long-term growth and stability?

There are dozens of additional teacher certification exams for which we do not yet offer prep, and we hear frequently from those who need these services. This grant would accelerate our ability to meet that need and would catalyze a dramatic "ripple effect" of growth for us. We would be able to hire several full-time curriculum designers. Together, they could create a projected 12-16 new programs per year and this, in turn, would allow us to hire over 20 new instructors to teach the material.

What challenges can you identify for your business, and how do you plan to overcome them?

This grant would provide us the opportunity for rapid growth over the next two years, but this presents a challenge: expand our group of instructors quickly while still ensuring great teaching. This is why we also plan to hire a Manager of Curriculum and Instruction to join our existing operations team. This individual would aid in teacher recruiting and program oversight, allowing us to continue attracting talented teachers and providing them the support they need to be successful.

Describe the talent and skill of your employees, and how they contribute to a successful business.

We operate with a small core team of full-time employees whose dedication, creativity, and diversity of skills is extraordinary. Our 20+ part-time instructors are also essential to our success. This is more than a job for them; it is an opportunity to positively impact the next generation of educators by helping them deepen their content knowledge and by modeling effective ways to teach that subject matter. We say that great teaching makes a difference, and they deliver on this promise.
