The RICA exam covers Planning, Organizing and Managing Reading Instruction Based on Ongoing Assessment; Word Analysis; Fluency; Vocabulary, Academic Language and Background Knowledge; and Comprehension.

In these info-packed classes (sold separately), we'll review all the key content knowledge from these domains. We'll also teach you test strategies designed specifically for RICA, including deconstructing multiple-choice questions, using appropriate terminology, and structuring your constructed-responses and case study to maximise your marks.

RICA

 

Time Activity
Saturday Morning - Subtest 1
 
9:00-9:10 a.m.
Arrival and check-in. Please remember to bring your receipt and photo ID: these items are required for admission.
9:10-11:00 a.m.
Lecture presentation on RICA Subtest 1. Domain 2 – Word Analysis and Domain 3 – Fluency will be reviewed in detail. Topics will include Phonological and Phonemic Awareness, Concepts of Print, Alphabetic Principle, Phonics, Structural Analysis, Spelling and Orthographic Knowledge, and Understanding and Promoting Fluency Development. Test strategies and tips for multiple-choice will be incorporated.
11:00-11:10 a.m.
Mid-morning break
11:10-1:00 p.m.
Lecture presentation on Subtest 1 will continue. Teacher will work through two full constructed-response questions with the class and teach strategies for composing effective responses. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
1:00-2:00 p.m.
Lunch break

2:10-4:00 p.m.
Lecture presentation on RICA Subtest 2. Domain 4 – Vocabulary and Domain 5 – Comprehension will be covered in detail. Topics will include Vocabulary Development, Academic Language, Types of Reading Comprehension, and Analysis of Literary and Informational Texts. Test strategies and tips for multiple-choice will be incorporated.
4:00-4:10 p.m.
Afternoon break
4:10-6:00 p.m.
Lecture presentation on RICA Subtest 2 will continue. Teacher will work through two full constructed-response questions with the class and teach strategies for composing effective responses. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Sunday Morning - Subtest 3
 
9:00-9:10 a.m.
Arrival and check-in. Please remember to bring your receipt and photo ID: these items are required for admission.
9:10-11:00 a.m.
Lecture presentation on RICA Subtest 3. Domain 1 - Planning, Organizing and Managing Reading Instruction Based on Ongoing Assessment will be reviewed in detail. Topics will include Principles of Planning, Differentiated Instruction, Effective Delivery, Purposes of Assessment and Monitoring Progress. Test strategies and tips for both multiple-choice and the case study will be covered.
11:00-11:10 a.m.
Mid-morning break
11:10-1:00 p.m.
Teacher will work through a complete case study response with the class. Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions.
