In many states, prospective teachers must begin by taking the Praxis I Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST), which is a basic skills test covering mathematics, reading, and writing. Often colleges use Praxis PPST scores to evaluate candidates for entry into teacher preparation programs. However, this exam is typically not required in New Jersey.
