Science and Math Teacher, Tutor and Curriculum Designer
Overview: This is an opportunity for a unique individual with exceptional teaching skills, writing ability, creativity, analytical skills, and a strong understanding of the core concepts from a broad set of high-school-level science and mathematics disciplines. Candidate will become an essential member of the core team at Teachers Test Prep, Inc., a fast-growing company which provides quality, content-focused credentialing exam preparation programs for aspiring teachers nationwide. Candidate will help thousands of teachers to pass their credentialing exams, and help better prepare them for the classroom, by truly improving their mastery of the subject matter upon which they will be tested.
Position Description: Candidate will teach live group prep classes at colleges in and near the Los Angeles area, will provide one-on-one tutoring, will work both collaboratively and independently in developing new test preparation curricula for a variety of state teacher certification tests, will teach on-camera lessons for our on-demand online prep videos, and may perform other related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications: At minimum, candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific field with studies including undergraduate coursework in mathematics through calculus, all with a distinguished academic record. Candidate must also hold a valid teaching credential and have at least two years of classroom teaching experience. We are seeking a bright, resourceful, and committed individual with very strong subject matter knowledge within a broad set of high-school-level mathematics and science disciplines, including number theory, algebra, geometry, statistics, probability, pre-calculus, calculus, physical science, Earth and space science, and life science. Individual must also possess the ability to design and teach subject-matter-focused curricula in a way that is truly engaging and effective within the context of a fast-paced credentialing exam preparation program for prospective high school teachers in the aforementioned subject areas.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in a related field. Teaching experience in both math and science at the secondary level or above. Desire to grow with our company long-term.
Compensation: Base starting salary of $45,000/year, plus bonuses. Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
Hours/Locations: Position is full time (40+ hours per week, five days per week), but specific schedule is somewhat flexible. Typically, candidate will work at least one day per week from our office location in Marina del Rey, and may work from home the remainder of the week, writing curriculum and teaching/tutoring via our online classroom interface (reliable high speed internet connection required). Candidate will also be required to teach in-person Saturday/Sunday prep classes approximately two weekends per month, but will receive two days off during the week following any working weekend. Teaching locations may include Santa Monica College, Riverside City College, and other Los Angeles area locations. Candidate may occasionally be asked to travel outside the Southern California area to teach new pilot classes or to fill in for other teachers; in such cases, all related travel expenses will be covered by the company.
