Prep Class Instructor

(Openings in the L.A., O.C., Inland Empire, San Diego, Sacramento and San Francisco areas)

Position description: Lecture 1-2 weekends per two months at local colleges and other locations, utilizing pre-designed Teachers Test Prep classroom presentations, study guides and practice tests. Present subject matter and test-taking techniques in a clear and engaging manner, and answer questions while maintaining necessary pace to cover all key subject matter in the time allotted. Class size ranges from approximately 10 to 40 students.  We are currently hiring instructors for the following exams:

CSET Multiple Subjects -- Subtests include: (1) Reading, Language, Literature, History, and Social Science, (2) Science and Mathematics, (3) Physical Education, Human Development, and Visual and Performing Arts.

CSET Single Subject Mathematics -- Subtests include: (1) Algebra and Number Theory, (2) Geometry, Probability and Statistics, (3) Calculus and History of Mathematics.  Candidates must be able to teach, at minimum, subtests 1 and 2.

CSET Single Subject Science -- Subtests include: (1) Astronomy, Dynamic Processes of the Earth, Earth Resources, Waves, Forces and Motion, and Electricity and Magnetism, (2) Ecology, Genetics and Evolution, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Cell and Organismal Biology, Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics, and Structure and Properties of Matter. Candidates must be able to teach both subtests.

CSET Single Subject Social Science -- Subtests include: (1) World History and World Geography, (2) U.S. History and U.S. Geography, (3) Civics, Economics, and California History.  Candidates must be able to teach all three subtests.

CSET Single Subject English -- Subtests include: (1) Literature and Textual Analysis; Composition and Rhetoric, (2) Language, Linguistics, and Literacy, (3) Composition and Rhetoric; Literature and Textual Analysis, (4) Communications: Speech, Media, and Creative Performance. Candidates must be able to teach all four subtests.

RICA -- The Reading Instruction Competence Assessment includes multiple choice, constructed response, and case study sections.

Class size ranges from approximately 10 to 40 students.

Hours/Location: Part-time (typically one weekend every two months).

Equipment: Individual must have a reliable laptop computer capable of running PowerPoint presentations.

Compensation: $35-$50/hr, dependent on qualifications.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelors degree. At least one year of experience teaching or tutoring. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong understanding of the foundational concepts in each subject matter domain candidate will teach. Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for helping students learn.

Applicants need not have taken the exam, but candidates making it to the second interview round may be asked to take a written evaluation and/or perform a mock teaching session to establish subject matter competency.
