RICA Prep Class Instructor - Los Angeles

 

We’re seeking experienced and enthusiastic educators who want to help the next generation of teachers pass their RICA exams.

Position description: You'll help prepare aspiring teachers for their exams using Teachers Test Prep slideshows and practice tests. You will teach subject matter, test-taking strategies and constructed response-writing in a clear and engaging manner, as well as answer students’ questions. One of the main skills for this job is being responsive to students’ needs while maintaining the necessary pace to cover all the key content in the time allotted. Class sizes generally range from between 10-40 students.

In-person classes will be offered from Spring 2022 (COVID conditions permitting). In the meantime, you will teach online Zoom classes. When in-person classes resume, you may opt to continue teaching Zoom classes as well (depending on demand). Applicants may also be interested in teaching additional in-person classes in the Inland Empire.

Hours: Part-time. In-person classes are held quarterly and involve approximately 12 hours of teaching over one weekend (all day Saturday and half a day on Sunday).

Zoom classes are also held quarterly and are offered in 2-hour sessions held outside work hours twice a week, over a 3-week period.

Location: In-person classes are held at the Courtyard Marriott, 6333 Bristol Parkway, Culver City, California.

Zoom classes are delivered from your home or preferred location.

Equipment: You must have a reliable laptop capable of running PowerPoint presentations. For online classes (optional), you will need a high-speed internet connection and a computer able to run Zoom.

Starting compensation: $45/hr.

Minimum qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree and at least five years’ teaching experience are required for this role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as a strong understanding of reading instruction and the RICA exam. Interpersonal skills, energy and an enthusiasm for helping students learn are also essential.

Candidates advancing to the second round of interviews will be asked to do a mock teaching session and Q&A to demonstrate their subject matter knowledge and teaching skills.

Preferred qualifications: Graduate degree. Distinguished academic record.
