CSET Test Dates
Below is a current listing of the 2025 CSET test dates.
When selecting your CSET test date, ensure you have enough time to prepare. Start by viewing our free CSET Study Guide for a list of the topics that appear on your exam. Then take a free CSET Practice Test, which includes a diagnostic breakdown of your strengths and weaknesses in each topic area. This will help you determine how much preparation you need.
If you decide to take a CSET Prep Course, you'll ideally want to schedule your exam a short time after your last class session, so the information you've learned is fresh in your mind. (View upcoming CSET prep course schedules here.)

Choosing Your Test Date
Passing the CSET is one of the main ways prospective teachers meet the subject matter requirements for a California teaching credential. You generally need to pass the CSET before you can begin student teaching. Some teacher preparation programs also require you to pass the CSET before being admitted.
Begin by learning the deadline your school or employer has set. Then check the current CSET test dates and results release schedule. Choose a date that ensures your results will be available in time.
Make sure you allow time to retake the test if you don’t pass on your first attempt. You can retake the exam as many times as you need. However, be aware that if you’re taking the test on computer, there must be 45 calendar days between attempts.
Plan to take the exam as early as possible while still giving yourself enough time to prepare. To work out how much study time you need, view our free CSET Study Guide to see what content is covered on your exam. Then take our free CSET Practice Test to see how you’ll perform and identify any areas where you need to improve.
